Getting started
Etherpage gives you a simple onchain page with a short name, such as alice. A page holds your
addresses for any chain, a profile and a website, and it can be the name apps show for your wallet
instead of 0xd8dA…6045. Each page is an NFT on OP Mainnet.
Unlike most naming services, Etherpage has no owner. The contracts have no admin key, no proxy and no upgrade path, so nobody can change, pause or reverse them. Nobody collects the fees either: every yearly fee goes into a deposit that stays with the page and goes back to its payee when the page ends. The only rules that apply to your page are the ones in the contracts, which anyone can read on the OP Mainnet explorer at the addresses on the contracts page.
What you need
- A wallet. MetaMask, Rabby, or any wallet that supports WalletConnect.
- A little ETH on OP Mainnet. A name of 5 or more characters costs 0.0001 ETH per year, plus gas for two transactions. If your ETH is on Ethereum, move some to OP Mainnet first, through a bridge or an exchange that withdraws to OP Mainnet.
- A minute. Registration is two transactions with a 20-second wait between them, which stops anyone from seeing the name you picked and taking it first.
Names
A page’s name is one label, such as alice. A subpage adds one label in front of it, such as
blog.alice. That is the whole name: there is no suffix to add, and no third level.
A label has 1 to 63 characters from a to z, 0 to 9 and the hyphen. Capitals become lowercase.
See the name rules for the details.
Register your first page
- Go to Register and search for the name you want.
- If it is free, check the price and press Start registration. Your wallet sends a sealed commitment, so nobody can tell which name you picked.
- Wait 20 seconds. If you close the tab, the site remembers your registration in this browser and lets you resume it.
- Press Complete registration and confirm the second transaction with the fee.
- Done. The page is minted to your wallet as an ERC-721 token. Find it on your dashboard.
You can also take a 14-day trial for a tenth of the yearly fee, and the trial money comes back to you. See Trials.
After registering
From your dashboard you can open any page you hold and:
- Set its addresses: the main address on OP Mainnet, and an address for any other chain.
- Make it your display page: the name apps show for your address.
- Give it a face: use an NFT you hold from a supported collection as its picture.
- Set up a website: point it at IPFS content, served at
https://yourname.ipfs.cc. - Create subpages: free, one level deep, and yours to give away or sell.
- Renew it before it expires. A paid page also has a 90-day grace period after expiry, during which it can still be renewed.
